#: Erica Sanders (update 23)

ERICA SANDERS - I’m 26 years old from Stockport in the northwest of England, returning to HDM from a year back in England. I played for HDM in the 20/21 and 21/22 seasons and have great memories of playing playoffs with the team and after a year focused on my university study and coaching I am excited to get back to The Hague for another season of hockey with the team.

I began playing hockey at Beeston HC in Nottingham at 12 years old and stayed there until I left school to go to study at the University of Birmingham where I played hockey for 3 years in the English Premier Division. My next club was Surbiton HC in west London, I had been selected for the Great Britain senior squad in January of 2017 after the Junior World Cup in Chile 2016 so moved down south. I spent 3 years training and playing full time for England and Great Britain playing 29 times for the national team, at the end of the 2021 season I then moved to The Hague to play for HDM. Most recently I competed for England in the 2022 Europeans in Amsterdam.

This last year I have been fully committed to finishing my bachelors degree in Environmental Science and Evolutionary Biology. Alongside I have been the Head Coach for an U18 girls national champions school team as well as coaching many junior teams at my club. So I am also excited to work alongside Jorgen as the assistant coach for MO18 this coming season. I am currently looking for a job and work now that I have finished my studies.

Away from the field I enjoy playing and watching other sports, I am always up for a game of tennis, padel or a round of golf. I am looking forward to living back near the beach! This past year I have missed being able to cycle to the beach for a cold swim and a warm coffee.

On the field I play as an attack in the forward line, the attacking circle is my happy place! I enjoy battling in the circle to score goals, especially around the keeper for deflections. Being a bit older in the team and with my experience I am looking forward to taking a role in the tactical side as well, helping to lead the press in the forward line.

I am expecting a tough battle this season, but I believe with the team that we have, we must learn on our strengths, stay tight as a group and we can get back up to the top of the league table and compete for playoffs again.
