#15 - Reuben Sendzul
REUBEN SENDZUL - I am 18 years old. I come from South Africa. I played for Central Hockey Club in South Africa and I also play for the SA u21 men’s outdoor team, as well as being apart of the newly selected SA men’s outdoor squad.
Why do you like to play at HDM heren 1? What is your ambition / motivation / reason?
I really am looking forward to playing for HDM heren 1 because it is a real family club, when you play for HDM you play for something bigger than just the 16 guys next to you, you play for all the people that tirelessly give up there time to help and support and make sure that we can always preform at our best and strive for the results we want. It’s bigger than just the guys that are currently playing, it’s about the club legends that came before and the ones that will soon hopefully follow. It’s about creating a belief and legacy as a team that we are able to compete and achieve against any team in the league.
I play striker/drop striker, I also add an option at the top of the castle in a penalty corner as well.
I think I would describe myself as determined, I want to do what’s best for the club, and work every day to be able to be at my best to be able to help us achieve and preform on match day.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
When I was a child I always wanted to be a professional hockey player, it has always been my dream to participate in tournaments such as the Olympics, World Cups as well as play in the Hoofdklasse.
What is the best compliment you have received recently and from whom have you received this (does not have to be about hockey, can be anything)
I think the best compliment I received recently is from my roommate Marc, he said he was impressed that I was able to find out the route to the club on the bike from our house alone - as the first time he did it he got very lost. Little does he know that I got very lost as well. 😂
I have two great examples: firstly, Micheal Jordan, as his outlook and the way he approached being an athlete and a public figure is admirable, his work ethic and morals as well. And secondly, it would be my father, the pathway and opportunity both him and my mother have set for me to be able to be here and to grow and continue growing into the person I look to be, have been nothing short of amazing. I am truly grateful to be able to be able to call them my parents.
I guess no one knows that I play the guitar as I did music as a subject in school.
